Concept artists have developed methods and techniques that allow them to create high quality works that at least have the appearance of being heavily detailed, all within very short amounts of time. Recently (less than 24 hours ago) I watched a series of three videos that one such artist had released that showed him, in real time, working in Photoshop to create his concept art. The videos were incredibly helpful and I was able to directly incorporate his techniques into my own work. After 3 hours of video watching I sat down and spent only 4 hours creating a piece that would previously have taken me an ungodly amount of time.
So, what does this all mean? Two things:
1. I'm way more awesome than I thought I was because I was able to simply watch a few videos and completely change the way I create digital paintings in Photoshop.
2. More importantly it means that if there's a type of art or style out there that you aspire to create all you have to do is find the resources you need to learn it, put your mind to it, and you can create whatever kind of artwork you want to.
